Job Title: Day Security Officer

Department: Human Resources

Reports To: Safety/Security Coordinator

FLSA Status: Nonexempt – 12 month position

Salary Grade: 6B ($16.24-$19.09-$21.93)/hr.

Approved Date: 07/01/2022

 

SUMMARY 

 

Ensures a safe and orderly school and work environment and guards St. Labre property against fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc. by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.  * Indicates the non-essential duties and responsibilities.  Nothing in this job description restricts St. Labre's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

 

  1. Responds to calls from school administrators for assistance.

  2. Prevents illegal activities on campus

  3. Observes personnel and students to guard against vandalism, theft, etc. of school property

  4. Reports all open doors, windows, and any incidents which may occur, to his/her supervisor 

  5. Patrols buildings and grounds including airstrip and park.

  6. Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.

  7. Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, speeding, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.

  8. Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred.

  9. Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.

  10. Maintain and operates the employee ID system

  11. Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.

  12. Permits authorized persons to enter property.

  13. Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.

  14. Operates the Kenco security system making sure employees are properly assigned and/or deleted as needed.

  15. Maintains and operates the Ready Key System for doors

  16. Ensures all employees, guests and vendors have proper ID badge in place

  17. Serves and enforces all “Notice of Trespass” documents against named individuals ordered off the premises by the Executive Director of St. Labre.

  18. Assists local law enforcement when problems such as vandalism, substance abuse, domestic violence, and unacceptable behavior occurs in St. Labre housing units and/or on campus.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to six months related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Prior experience in law enforcement and/or military background preferred.

  1. Must be reliable and trustworthy.

  2. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out duties. 

  3. Ability to deal with problems and situations.

  4. Ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

 

Valid Montana driver's license.
